Math Poems and Rhymes: Getting Ready for Math Time!
Math poems and rhymes are a fun why to get your child excited about math. Starting with a poem, rhyme, or song is a great way to begin a preschool math activity. Your child will also develop a mind set that "math is fun". This can help alleviate fears or apprehensions about math later on. Children also love the rhythm that comes with poems. The rhyming patterns themselves are an important component when learning to read. The four poems presented are simple. They are easy to learn and the older child will be able to recite them with a little practice. Turn these poems into a preschool art activity. You can tap into vocabulary and motor skill development while focusing on math. How great is that! 1. Print poem on card stock 2. Find math related pictures in magazines or print ones from on-line 3. Cut out pictures 4. Glue pictures around the poem 5. Talk about your mini-math collage 6. Say poem together 7. Start a fun math activity
